# Education Pathway to the Republic of Korea

We are pleased to share an opportunity for refugee students to express interest in the Education Pathway to the Republic of Korea under the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) programme. This initiative is jointly supported by the Korean Ministry of Justice (MOJ), Ministry of Education (MOE), and UNHCR Korea, offering up to 5 scholarship places per year specifically for refugees. Applicants must carefully read the information HERE before applying.

Below is a brief overview of the programme and eligibility criteria:

Programme Details

Duration: 3 years starting September 2026 (1-year Korean language course + 2-year Master’s programme)

Coverage: Airfare, tuition, living allowance

Basic Eligibility criteria

Must be a recognised refugee (by the current country of asylum or UNHCR via mandate RSD) Must have at least a bachelor’s degree. Academic Performance: CGPA must meet one of the following conditions: 80% or above on a 100-point scale or Top 20% of their class CGPA equivalent: 2.64/4.0, 2.80/4.3, 2.91/4.5, or 3.23/5.0 Must be under 40 years of age (born after September 1, 1986)

Additional requirements depending on universities e.g. for Sogang University, official English test score report (TOEFL, IELTS, etc.) Important: Each university has different deadlines. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure UNHCR receives all required documents on time. Applicants who fulfil the basic criteria and are interested in applying, should submit an Expression of Interest here. Shortlisted applicants will receive an email within 3 working days containing the university application form and the deadline for submission. Please note that different universities have different deadlines for submission. With MOE and MOJ, UNHCR will be holding a Briefing Session on next Monday (9th March, 3:00 p.m.), applicants who have been shortlisted before 8th March are advised to attend.
